Zion

The bible is so full of symbolism it's incredible. One word that has always intrigued me is Zion. It's a mountain or a city. . . seems to be referred to as a place. . . but what is it really? Does it symbolize anything? Possibly the group of believers or church? (city. . . ) I really don't know but it is an interesting question.

Here are a few verses I found about it. . . if you have any more insight. . . please share!

Psalm 2:6
6 "I have installed my King [a]
on Zion, my holy hill."
Psalm 9:11
Sing praises to the LORD, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what he has done.

Psalm 74:2
2 Remember the people you purchased of old,
the tribe of your inheritance, whom you redeemed—
Mount Zion, where you dwelt.

2 Samuel 5:7
7 Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion, the City of David.

Isaiah 51:3
3 The LORD will surely comfort Zion
and will look with compassion on all her ruins;
he will make her deserts like Eden,
her wastelands like the garden of the LORD.
Joy and gladness will be found in her,
thanksgiving and the sound of singing.

John 12:14-16
14Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written,
15"Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion;
see, your king is coming,
seated on a donkey's colt."[a]

1 Peter 2:6
For in Scripture it says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame."

God Bless!
